Wanaka is one of those places that probably gets out shined by its neighbouring town of Queenstown. But from my visit this town is simply breathtaking. Not only does it have the stunning Lake Wanaka (apparently New Zealands 4th largest lake) at the core but it is surrounded by Mt Aspiring National Park.
The weekend we visited Wanaka it was a hosting the annual triathlon (Challenge Wanaka), where (what seemed like) hundreds of people took part. But the sporty feel of the area doesn’t stop there, with mountain bike, kayak and sailing boats for rent in plentiful supply in the centre as well as walking routes doting around the area and coffee shops for everyone else!
