Westport, New Zealand

To reach Westport from Nelson’s Lakes you lass the ‘white water capital of New Zealand’ known as Muchison. Here the Buller River and Buller Gorge allow tourists to have a go at white water rafting, kayaking or walk over New Zealand’s longest swing bridge (110m long). We stayed off the water and watched a few rafts go down stream from the view points along the road.
Where the Buller River meats the Tasman Sea is the town of Westport. This town formed from the gold and coal found in this area. Not far from Westport is Tauranga Bay also referred to as Cape Foulwind. Here you can see fur seals and take a walk along the coast to the lighthouse.
