When looking around the city of Vientiane you wouldn’t believe that it was the capital of Laos. Being able to see to the very edge of the city it is no bigger than the size of one of London’s boroughs!
The laid-back lifestyle of Laos oozes from this city with few tuk tuk drivers asking for rides, late night bars and tourist hotspots. To be honest most of the shops offer bus tickets out of the city!!
Nevertheless Vientiane bears itself with good French bakeries, pizza restaurants and casual bars, perfect for travellers who want to sit and relax all day.
When in Vientiane, you should enjoy a coffee and croissant in the morning (try Le Banneton- but they do sell out….a good sign it is worth it), then have a wander through the handful of wats-all concentrated within an easy walking distance. Then finally finish with the highlight of the city by walking up the Patuxi, or Laos equivalent of Arc de Triomphe. 7 floors later and you can see great panoramicviews of the city.
